OMFG

Quadruped military robot, since last inception, has gotten scary.

I’m with the poster - I found myself going, “Aww…no!” when this thing almost fell down on the ice, and when the researcher kicked it to see if it would fall down.

The movements of the legs in situations where the mechanisms are actually taxed are extremely lifelike.  You can almost see it struggling.

If they put defense systems on this (i.e. guns), it could be an almost fool-proof way of getting supplies to troops.

I could think of devious uses for it, but I’m sure I’m not the only one, so I just won’t mention them.

  • It is sort of freaky to watch, isn’t it? I’m thinking it may do well as a rescue unit in areas that have been bombed or damaged by weather/earthquakes.

excuse my language but holy shit!

If I saw that thing in my back yard I would be out there with a baseball bat, beating it until it just. stopped. moving. And OMG, that noise it makes! Ack! I’ll hear that whirring in my nightmares.

I am officially freaked the hell out. Thanks a lot.

Nope…. looks too cool to me. Would love to have a tame one, but I think it would have a bog ‘ol kill switch installed with a button on my wrist.

  • My son sent me a link to that a couple days ago. Pretty cool until you think about what it might be extrapolated to.

Imagine increasing the speed by a factor of five or ten and adding target aquisition and weapons delivery payloads. The prime application would be when the men in uniform refused to follow orders and the politicians insisted on enforce their decisions.

You guys get your anti-materiel rifles and I’ll start work on the explosive solutions.

  • Am I the only one who wonders how that thing would ride if you threw a saddle on it?

  • I’m thinking along Joe’s train of thought. Asimov is dead. Mean people are, generally, in charge.

Being mean, yes they do suck.

Why couldn’t I ever figure out how to make one of those out of my Erector Set.

I thought, cool, then creepy, then, my gawd I wish I’d written the control software for that! This thing is the robot equivalant of the first two computers talking to each other back at the birth of the internet.

We’re dead! We’re dead! So, you had a post about the lambdas on your tattoo and then this post and it’s from half-life 2 (computer game for any non-nerds, and half-life is denoted by the lambda) and OHMYGODTHEY’REREALANDAREGOINGTOOWNUS.

    But yea, creeeeeepy.
