From Freedom to Fascism in 10 Easy Steps

Thanks to Blurbomat for this gem:

Article in The Guardian outlining the steps needed to turn a Democratic Republic into a Fascist State…while citing examples of how the U.S. Government has already accomplished those steps during this administration.

Funny how things can change in 6 or 7 years, isn’t it?

If you found that article interesting, check out the movie America: Freedom to Fascism, directed by Aaron Russo.

Watch the authorized version on Google video here.

The moral of this story? Buy a copy of the Constitution of the United States. Learn it. Use it. Love it. Fight for it.

(psst: there’s no law that says you have to pay income taxes. just fyi. carry on.)

thanks the helping offer. I will use it I need it. I only study it for 1 and half years.
about the post: world changes. we have to accept it and we can smile on the past’s events.

Cleaver article… and cleaver post… tough You can not do much with a book, even if it is the Constitution of the United States or what ever… Your Constitution, every constitution, is just nothing but an ideal if people would not be democratic in their lives!

    Cheers!

To ropinator: The world changes, but I will not sit back and allow it to change where the United States of American becomes akin to Communist China, where you can be arrested at any point for any reason, without a lawyer, and sentenced to life in jail without a trial. That’s not freedom. That’s not what this country was based on. I refuse to accept it.

To Klatuu o embuçado: That’s the sort of attitude I’m fighting. Our government was designed to be run by the people, for the people. Our country was designed to be a refuge from the ridiculous laws of other countries. We become like other countries? Unacceptable.

Ok, pet peeve, we are not living in a DEMOCRACY! It is a Constitutional Republic!

Democracies are merely mob rule. It follows the old premiss that many of our mothers taught us growing up, well at least my generation. If everyone else was jumping off a cliff would you? In a democracy, you are forced to do what everyone else is doing, in a constitutional republic you can choose not to.

I know I’m oversimplifying, but the analogy is valid as far as it goes.

As far as the income tax thing goes, I do believe that a law requiring it was passed, though it could be argued that such a law is unconstitutional by its very nature. Then again, many of the laws we live under are de jure unconstitutional. However, as Chairman Mao so aptly put it “power comes from the barrel of a gun”.

Admittedly, I am a hardcore libertarian who does not wish to tell anyone else how to live, and who expects the same courtesy. Sadly, I am also a student of history.

Renn, I didn’t say this was a democracy. I said it was a democratic republic. There is a subtle difference. :-)

As far as the rest of your comment goes, I am sadly also aware that the pattern of history dictates that we will never be able to just live and let live in this country, or anywhere else, for that matter.

The law IS unconstitutional, and the 16th Amendment is actually being found by judges in this country to not have been ratified. I just found that news out on Monday night, and it was through someone else, so unfortunately I don’t have any more details than that, but it’s pretty exciting news, I think.
