About This Blog
I’m scrapping the “how this blog came into being” approach for a more “what in the hell is this blog for?” approach.
This blog is for me, and not you. I will take requests occasionally, but if you’re not happy with something I write, or how I word something, don’t be an asshole. Ask for clarification, and if my answer is not satisfactory, maybe this isn’t the place for you.
This blog is for my thoughts and feelings on things such as guns, psychology, school, my life in general, celebrity snark, and whatever is on my mind at any given time. I may wax political one day, talk philosophy and religion the next, and then turn into some sort of psychopathic, hyperactive, prolific super-poster of random crap.
My political affiliation is closely associated with libertarianism, but I’m more moderate in most aspects. One thing you can always expect to hear from me, however: NOTHING in the Bill of Rights says that you have the right to not be offended. In other words, if I offend you, it’s your problem, not mine. If you whine, I’ll continue to offend you just to be an asshole. Because it’s funny.
My religious affiliation is as firmly rooted in agnosticism as I think you can be. I tolerate other religions because I think it’s important to have faith in something. However, the second you try to use your religion in any sort of offensive manner, you’re banned. Think of how it feels when someone tells you you’re stupid for believing what you do - if it makes you mad, re-consider saying it to someone else. If they choose to disagree with you after you’ve shared your opinion, you’ve done all you “need” to do in order to “share” your religion, and no other action is required or welcome in this blog.
Here are some general statistics:
I’m a female in my mid-20s.
I attend a private university in the Memphis area, and am working on my BA in Psychology. I plan to get my doctorate eventually, and would like to either concentrate my efforts post-grad in research or in teaching at a university.
I’m a “gunnie” - i.e. I staunchly support the Second Amendment, and believe that every American should exercise that right, at the risk of losing everything else they have to “nanny state” and “feel good” politics. I think there should be lawful concealed carry allowed on campus. If you’re carrying safely elsewhere, and have had a background check, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be allowed to carry where you go to school or work. The boundaries of the campus don’t change who you are, and they don’t change who a criminal is, either. We’re all the same no matter where we may be, and the only folks who are affected by laws are victims - criminals couldn’t give less of a shit. If they’ve broken the law before, what makes you think they’ll obey it if it’s worded more strongly?
I hate socialists. I hate communists. If anyone ever tries to argue the benefits of Welfare or “universal healthcare” with me, I will take great pleasure in telling them why they’re wrong, with a metric fuckton of examples to support my claim.
I think Affirmative Action is one of the biggest social scams ever. I get passed over for things because I’m white. Who do I have to complain to? No one, because if I complain, I’m apparently a racist. Go figure. Ditto for Feminism, and any other program that seeks to “equalize” people who aren’t WASPS. Guess what, folks? By drawing attention to yourself, you’re isolating your group further. Congratulations, you’re a hypocrite.
I love photography, and have recently tried to launch my own business, but school has gotten in the way. So now I merely take production photos for a friend’s film company (or, more recently, lend my camera for the cause), and go geek out with friends and our myriad of camera equipment.
I sing with Opera Memphis on occasion. I’m currently on hiatus because of school.
I paint. A lot.
I’m a research assistant in an educational policy research center at a university.
I tend to think that people are both the most interesting things on the planet, and the most revolting creatures in existence. This comes across in my writing. It’s hard to hide an opinion like that.
I don’t write to spare anyone’s feelings, but I generally don’t lash out and attack a certain group of people for no reason. If you are offended by anything I write, you are more than welcome to let me know in the comments, but I can’t guarantee that you’ll get any sort of response unless you have a really good point to argue, and even then I’ll probably just tell you you’re entitled to your opinion and move on. I do try to always respond to comments, but I have a life, too. I am a prolific poster, but given how quickly I type, it doesn’t take a whole lot out of my day to simply bitch and click “save”.
If you have any questions, ask away. In the interest of my privacy and personal safety, I reserve the right to be as indirect and wheedling as I want while answering, but I will always be honest.
